ONCE UPON A TIME

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time…

with pen and brush I did paint

about life

fairytales

fantasies

darkness

no longer can I imagine these.

Once upon a time…

such fullness of this life

was mine

happiness

love

joy

memories

and so much more.

Once upon a time…

in heaping measure did I find

anger

melancholy

sadness

loneliness

These feelings were also mine.

Once upon a time…

my laughter pealed through the air

like happy bells

loudly

freely

unabashedly

recognized by many as my own.

Once upon a time …

I believed these things would

last forever

changing never

be my companions

feed my muse

my mind infused with hunger.

Once upon a time…

imagination was lost to silence

gone was creation

diluted was humor

no longer caring

no longer sharing

and my muse found a new home.

Once upon a time…

I sensed the remnant of a memory

very faintly

calling to me

begging to be free

infected by anxiety

but I have lost that ancient key.

Once upon a time…

slipping away in syncopated rhyme

dusty memories

no longer mine

thoughts unkind

life undefined

my visions blurred by shades of gray.

A Spirit of Halloweens Past

A Spirit of Halloweens Past

Photobucket

A pumpkin was used to replace his head
balanced firmly on his shoulders.
Eyes glowing angry like firelight;
while perched precariously upon a dark horse.
Slowly he  turns toward your direction.
Muscles tighten as your body reacts to fight or flight!

Upon the horse was slung a  dark sack
appearing to contain several boulder-like objects.
The eerie glow from his flickering eyes
reveal thin rivulets of slowly congealing blood
flowing and disappearing into the ground.
Silently he stares, seemingly in your direction.

Backing deeper into shadows, an exit clearly in sight,
you cautiously inspect this strange effigy.
The sickening scent of rotting flesh chokes the air,
as swarming flies thoroughly coat the horse.
His savaged body is spewing infection.
Decades of Halloweens past
they must have made this ride.

Less and less does this sad image create fright,
even when focusing eyes smolder and relight.
So weary seem they of this long and ghoulish trail;
perhaps wishing this long curse was finally over!
When, as suddenly as you had realized his presence,
these sad creatures on the chilly breeze did dissolve.

Hope For Tomorrow?

HOPE FOR TOMORROW?

I wonder how many tomorrows
we will be allowed?
We stand in the dark
and tightly cling to hope
because hope is all there is.

Our sins against nature are many.
Cumulative failings on our part,
brought on the darkest of times.
Mother Nature will have her revenge!
A ray of hope for a better tomorrow?

Our world has become a bit of a gutter,
this is our home, we have no other !
Hope for tomorrow is just out of reach;
so many hold so little hope
of our situation getting better!

The beautiful profit
reads light into everything she sees.
Better days she can see
but always just beyond our reach,
Tragedy ending with a ray of hope?

That would be hell indeed!

Another entity stands in the shadows
keeping tally much like Santa does,
but this tally
could be the end of us!

It would be so wonderful
if we could open a window into ourselves;
to be seen for what we truly are ,
and understood for what we mean.
So many misunderstandings would disappear!

Something so wondrous
could indeed leave you speechless!
Always, so much just out of perception’s reach
that we may never understand.
Always guessing on which side of the road we stand.

Shedding and changing parts of ourselves
with each maturing stage of our life.
Pray the tally-man’s sharp pen
can edit out our actions past
growing pains that brought actions unwise.

EFFIGIES

…and I wander down this frightening road,

always doing as I am told.
Begging God to help me

Meek and quiet, with walls I blend.
Fearing they would call me again
to point out another sin!

Dull are our clothes, from effigies they hang.
Gone is our language…
will our parents still understand us?

I miss the warriors drumming thunder!
taking comfort from Mother Nature,
and the skies that we laid under.

Missing the food, gifts from Mother Earth.
While mother’s hugs kept evil away,
that father could always conquer.

Once happy children, now fearing to laugh!
So broken are the souls in us…
for laughter could bring death.

.and I wander down this frightening road
always doing as I am told
begging God to help me
wondering why God does not see
